What are Movement Joints?

Flooring Movement joints: are most commonly found between different sections of flooring or pavements. A movement joint, also known as an expansion joint, is a dynamic component that is designed to relieve or absorb movement between structural elements and help prevent cracking. Such movement can be a result of thermal expansion and contraction.

Why Use a Flooring Movement Joints ?

Expansion & contraction are a consequence of changes in temperature and moisture levels in Flooring. Flooring Movement joints provide space for these changes to take place without compromising other aspects of the flooring design.

Our movement joints or Expansion Joints are suitable for use in respect of BS 5385 (part 3) 2007 code of practice for the design and installation of ceramic floor tiles and mosaics and BS 5385 (part 5) 2009 code of practice for the design and installation of terrazzo tiles, slab and natural stone. Donmini movement joints also comply with those recommended for use by the British Ceramic Tile Council's technical specification No. 16.
